Simon R. Mayer of Hughes Watters Askanase Receives
Houston Bar Association President’s Award
HOUSTON, Texas (June 12, 2012) – Simon R. Mayer, an associate in the Business Bankruptcy Practice Area of Hughes Watters Askanase, L.L.P. (HWA) was recognized recently by Houston Bar Association 2011-2012 President Denise Scofield with a President's Award for outstanding contributions as co-chair of the Eikenburg Law Week Fun Run Committee. Mayer received the award at the annual HBA dinner on Thursday, May 24, at River Oaks Country Club.
Mayer has been a member of the Houston Bar Association since the 2010 – 2011 program year. In his role as co-chair of the Eikenburg Law Week Fun Run Committee, Mayer was responsible for soliciting donations from event sponsors, organizing and coordinating the race day activities. The fun run raised approximately $70,000 for The Center, which provides services for more than 700 adults with developmental disabilities and related conditions). This donation allowed the HBA to reach its $1 million goal for contributions to The Center over the past 27 years of race donations.
“Simon did an outstanding job co-chairing the Law Week Fun Run, and I was happy to have the opportunity to recognize his important service to the community,” Scofield commented.
Mayer was admitted to the State Bar of Texas and began practicing law at HWA in 2007. As a member of HWA’s Business Bankruptcy team, he represents clients in corporate reorganizations, restructuring, creditors’ rights and related litigation. Mayer has assisted debtors, creditors and trustees in various Chapter 7 and 11 cases. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from Trinity University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from South Texas College of Law.
