Simon Mayer, Glenn Valentine Join
Hughes Watters Askanase as Associates
HOUSTON (Nov. 29, 2007) - Hughes Watters Askanase, L.L.P. (HWA) announced that Simon Mayer and Glenn Valentine have joined the Houston-based law firm as associates in the bankruptcy and real estate practice groups, respectively.
Mayer completed a clerkship with HWA during his final year of law school at South Texas College of Law. As a member of the Bankruptcy Practice Group, he reports to partner Wayne Kitchens and focuses on reorganizations and workouts for corporations and individuals. Mayer will be representing secured creditors both in and out of bankruptcy and bankruptcy trustees, all the while becoming more involved in bankruptcy litigation.
"When I clerked at HWA last Christmas, I really enjoyed working closely with Wayne and Heather McIntyre. Learning from them was one of the primary reasons for joining the firm," said Mayer. "Bankruptcy law is something I've fallen into, and I've found it to be an interesting combination of litigation and transactional activities. It's the best of both worlds."
"We're thrilled to welcome Simon to HWA. He'll be a great asset to our firm and clients," said Kitchens. "As a member of our firm, and especially the Bankruptcy Practice Group, he'll assist with the ongoing growth and development of HWA."
Valentine began at HWA as a law clerk in March 2006 while still attending law school at South Texas College of Law. As a member of the Real Estate Practice Group, he will report to partner Gary Gunn and focus his practice on the representation of individuals and corporations in the leasing, development, financing, acquisition and disposition of commercial real estate. Valentine will also assist financial institutions in foreclosures, bankruptcies, collections and other banking matters.
"HWA's reputation within the Houston and Texas legal communities for bright and hardworking people is part of the reason why I was interested in joining the firm," said Valentine. "Also, their areas of practice, specifically real estate and general corporate work, appealed to me."
"We were consistently pleased with Glenn's work and initiative during his clerkship and are thrilled to have him as part of our full-time team," said Gunn. "We look forward to the value he'll bring to HWA and our clients as he contributes to the continuing growth and development of our firm."
Mayer and Valentine were admitted to the Texas Bar in November 2007 after receiving their law degrees in the same year from the South Texas College of Law in Houston. Mayer received his bachelor of arts degree in 1998 from Trinity University, and Valentine received his bachelor of business administration degree in 2004 from the University of Mississippi.
