Hughes Watters Askanase Attorneys Allison D. Byman, Erica Hakimi, Simon R. Mayer, Nathan Milliron and Sabrina Neff Named to 2014 List of Texas Rising Stars
HOUSTON, Texas (March 27, 2014) – Hughes Watters Askanase L.L.P. (HWA) attorneys Allison D. Byman, Erica Hakimi, Simon R. Mayer, Nathan Milliron and Sabrina Neff have been recognized by Law & Politics Magazine and Texas Monthly Magazine for the list of 2014 Texas Rising Stars.
Rising Stars recognizes the state’s top up-and-coming lawyers who are 40 years old or younger, or who have been in practice for 10 years or less. The survey from which Rising Stars are selected is based on nominations, personal observation and attorney-led research. This critical research process is so exclusive that no more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in the state are named to the Texas Rising Stars list.

Allison was appointed as a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee for the Southern District of Texas in April 2012 and joined HWA as an Of Counsel attorney in May 2012. Byman earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, cum laude, from Texas A&M University in 2000 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Houston Law Center in 2003. She was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2003 and is also admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts of Texas for the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Districts. Byman was also named as a Texas Rising Star (Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights) in 2010 and 2013.
Hakimi is currently is a member of the State Bar of Texas Labor and Employment Law Section. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology in 1998 form University of Houston and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from South Texas College of Law Center in 2001. She was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in November 2001 and was admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas in 2001. Hakimi was also named a Texas Rising Star (Employment Litigation) in 2004, 2012 and 2013.
Mayer was also named to the list of Texas Rising Stars in 2012 and 2013. He joined the firm as an associate in 2007 after earning his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from South Texas College of Law and being admitted to the State Bar of Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from Trinity University in 1998. Mayer is an active member of the Houston Bar Association. Simon is also currently the immediate past-chair of the Houston Bar Association Bankruptcy Committee.
Nathan was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in May 2004. He joined HWA in 2011 and supports the firm's Commercial Litigation Practice Area and focuses his practice on civil litigation, including commercial litigation, banking law, and creditors' rights. . Nathan received a Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston Law Center in 2004 and a Bachelor of Science degree in business and finance from Seton Hall University in 2001.
Sabrina was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2008. She joined Hughes Watters Askanase in February 2011 as a commercial litigation associate. She has extensive experience representing clients in civil litigation, focusing on complex commercial litigation, business transactions, business torts, and tax litigation. She is also admitted to practice law in the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Northern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas and the United States Tax Court.
