Hughes Watters Askanase Attorney Achieves Distinguished Certification
from Texas Board of Legal Specialization
HOUSTON, Texas (January 7, 2014) – Michael Weems, an associate with Houston-based law firm Hughes Watters Askanase L.L.P. (HWA), has been certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS) in Consumer Bankruptcy Law.
According to the TBLS Web site (www.tbls.org), more than 70,000 attorneys are licensed to practice in Texas, but only 7,000 have earned the right to be publicly recognized as Board Certified specialists in one of 21 select areas of law. The TBLS was established in 1974 by the Supreme Court of Texas at the request of the State Bar of Texas and is the only governing board authorized to certify attorneys in legal specialty areas.
“Earning a Board Certification, particularly on the first attempt, is quite an accomplishment and we applaud Michael for this outstanding achievement. Board Certification in consumer bankruptcy law brings significant value to our mortgage servicing clients and other lenders engaged in the consumer bankruptcy process,” commented Dominique Varner, partner at HWA.
Michael Weems received his Juris Doctorate from the South Texas College of Law and a Bachelors of Science in psychology from the University of Houston. He was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2008. He is licensed to practice in the U.S. District Courts of Texas (Southern, Western, Northern and Eastern). He also is licensed to practice in the U.S. Tax Court.
Michael focuses his practice on representing the needs and interests of borrowers, working with debtors and their counsel to address issues that may arise and create a positive outcome for his clients and safeguarding his clients from abusive and frivolous filings.
