Janet Casciato Northrup of Hughes Watters Askanase
To Speak at Mediator and Bankruptcy Conferences
HOUSTON (Feb. 25, 2008) - Janet Casciato Northrup, of counsel with Hughes Watters Askanase L.L.P. (HWA), has been chosen to speak at the Texas Association of Mediators (TAM) annual conference on Feb. 29 in Galveston, Texas, and at the State Bar of Texas International Bankruptcy Conference on March 6 in Barcelona, Spain.
Northrup, who is based in Houston, was added to the slate of speakers for these conferences because she has more than 25 years of legal experience and because of her solid reputation as an accomplished presenter, effective mediator and competent Chapter 7 Trustee and debtor's attorney. Her presentation, "Bankruptcy Mediation: Enabling the Process to Work," which Northrup will deliver at both conferences, provides insights and guidelines to properly prepare for and participate in the mediation process.
"This will be my first time speaking at the TAM conference, and it's a very appropriate opportunity with the recent changes in bankruptcy law and state of the economy because I think we'll see more activity in mediation," said Northrup. "The international seminar will help to broaden HWA's visibility and my availability as a mediator not just in Houston but Texas as a whole because bankruptcy attorneys from all over the state will be attending."
TAM is a statewide, interdisciplinary organization whose mission is to provide education and leadership in the study and practice of mediation. For more information or to register, please visit http://www.txmediator.org/. The International State Bar of Texas Bankruptcy Conference is sanctioned by the bankruptcy section of the State Bar. The 2008 international conference is the fifth of its type that enables a small group of attorneys to gather for a bankruptcy seminar in a more personalized setting. Attendees will receive 12 hours of CLE credit.
HWA, a law firm based in Houston, in addition to its extensive bankruptcy experience, also focuses on real estate, litigation, corporate transactions and consumer finance.
Northrup, who joined HWA last year, is recognized as one of the top consumer bankruptcy experts in Texas and has been named a Super Lawyer by Texas Monthly magazine. She is certified in consumer bankruptcy law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and has been a Chapter 7 Trustee for the Southern District of Texas since 1986.
