Dominique Varner and Heather McIntyre of Hughes Watters Askanase
to Present at TexasBarCLE Advanced Civil Trial Courses
HOUSTON, Texas (Aug. 20, 2008) - Dominique Varner and Heather McIntyre of Hughes Watters Askanase L.L.P. (http://www.hwa.com/) are serving as speakers and authors for the 31st Annual Advanced Civil Trial Course sponsored by the TexasBarCLE and offered live Aug. 27-29 in Dallas, Sept. 17-19 in San Antonio, and Nov. 12-14 in Houston. The course is also available via video Dec. 10-12.
Varner and McIntyre are included among several attorneys who have been chosen to write papers and deliver presentations for the course. Their topic for the series is "Current Bankruptcy Issues in Civil Trials." Varner is a partner at HWA who focuses her practice in the Bankruptcy and Consumer Financial Services areas. McIntyre, an associate, supports the Bankruptcy Practice Group at HWA.
McIntyre will present on Aug. 28. Varner will present on Sept. 18 and Nov. 13. They will be sharing highlights of a 37-page paper that they authored specifically for inclusion in the course. The Varner-McIntyre paper entitled "Current Bankruptcy Issues in Civil Trials" will be published in full and made available to all course attendees.
Varner was asked to present by one of her colleagues who has been involved in the planning of the Advanced Civil Trial Course and who was aware of her experience with bankruptcy law and its effect on bankruptcy litigation. She engaged McIntyre to assist her with sharing the writing and presentation opportunities for the Dallas portion of the seminar.
"We will direct our comments and perspectives to non-bankruptcy attorneys on the issue of the ‘automatic stay' in civil litigation. Topics will include the status of the law, limitation and parameters for litigating when a stay is in place," Varner explained. "These laws are continuously evolving, and we'll be discussing changes effective with the revisions to the Bankruptcy Code in 2006, a topic with which many non-bankruptcy lawyers may not be familiar, but which is crucially important to their practice."
Course attendees can earn 18.5 MCLE credits. For more information on the course, please visit http://www.texasbarcle.com/.
