Janet Northrup has been practicing law for more than 27 years. Jan joined Hughes Watters Askanase in 2007 in an of counsel role. She is recognized as a leading consumer bankruptcy expert in the state of Texas, having focused her practice on bankruptcy for more than 21 years. Since 1986, Jan has been a Chapter 7 Panel Trustee for the Southern District of Texas (Houston and Galveston Divisions)
Jan is the founder of the Law Offices of Jan S. Casciato in Houston, a firm she operated from 1981 through 1986. She was a partner with Casciato, Payne & Havekost from 1986 through 1992. She served as a shareholder, officer and member of the board of directors with Casciato-Northrup, Payne & Thomas, P.C. from 1992 through 1996. In 1996, Jan resumed sole practice when she formed the Law Office of Janet Casciato Northrup which she operated through 2006.
Admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1980, Jan became licensed with the Federal District Court for the Southern, Western, Eastern and Northern Districts of Texas.
Jan has actively pursued and earned several certifications. In 1992, Jan was board certified in Consumer Bankruptcy Law through the American Bankruptcy Institute. Also, in 1987, she was Board Certified in Consumer Bankruptcy Law through the Texas Board of Specialization. She became a certified mediator in 2003 through the Texas Association of Mediators, Association of Attorney-Mediators;
She served as a Chapter 7 Panel Trustee from 1995 through 2005 for the Western District of Texas.
Janet's area of specialty within bankruptcy law is consumer bankruptcy. She brings more than 20 years of high-level bankruptcy experience to the firm.

AWARDS AND HONORS
Jan was named as a Texas Super Lawyer by Texas Monthly Magazine 2004 through 2011. She was also named as a Distinguished Speaker for the Houston Bar Association Bankruptcy Section. She received the Bench Bar Conference Runner Most Likely to Catch the Ambulance Award from the American Bankruptcy Institute in 2007.
Jan also has won numerous awards in competitive running events, including 2nd Place in the Women's Age 25-39 Search Run for Shelter event sponsored by the American Heart Association in 1994; 2nd Place in the Tornados Herra Cross Country Relay event sponsored by the Tornados Running Club in 1995; 1st Place in the Masters Female 9th Annual Alltel Sugar Land Telephone/First Colony 30K Relay event sponsored by Alltel of Sugar Land in 1996; and 1st place Master's female champion in the 20th Cowtown Marathon event sponsored by The Cowtown Marathon in 1998.
